Installation Tips
Handling
SoftBac® Platinum is the same weight as traditional carpet, but because it's flexible, you need to handle it differently. You'll find carrying the carpet is easiest if you let it sag to the floor, rather than trying to keep straight. Its flexibility allows you to maneuver the carpet around corners and through hallways with less effort.
Tack Strips
Use one-inch tack strips with 'C' pins or architectural strips - especially along the set wall.
Cutting
Cutting carpet with SoftBac Platinum requires a sharp blade. The Crain 301 Top Row Cutter and the Cushion Back Roberts 10-146 are both effective cutting tools. Change blades frequently during installation. Cut with the grain of the carpet and place a hard surface beneath the carpet so as not to cut the pad.
Placement
Because it is less likely to slip on the pad, many installers have found pre-cutting especially helpful. Others use a fan to blow under the carpet to lift it off the pad and aid in positioning.
Seaming/Taping/Gluing
We recommend using premium quality, 4-inch tape for all seams. An iron set at 3.5 should be moved across the seam slow enough to melt the tape adhesive.
